Before The Cold Sets In
- Test your battery - most failures strike on the first frost
- Measure tread; below 3mm consider winter or all season rubber
- Set pressures for cold weather - drops of 1 psi per 5 degrees C are normal
- Check antifreeze and screenwash concentration
- Replace wiper blades that smear
On Frosty Mornings
- Allow extra time - never rush a cold, slippery commute
- Beware bridges and shaded bends freezing before open roads
- Gentle throttle and early braking beat any gadget
- Keep distance - stopping distances multiply on ice
- Clear every window, not just a porthole
Local Hotspots
Riverside stretches near the canal network, high ground towards Pelsall and Rushall, and the exposed A5 around Brownhills freeze first. If those roads feature in your morning, grippier cold-weather rubber pays for itself in confidence.
